I was reminded of this story and wanted to post it.
One of my children came in from the garage and said they thought they heard a snake. I went out to the garage and heard shuffling. I followed the sound to a section of linoleum floor that came out into our garage. I assumed from the sound, the snake had managed to crawl under the linoleum and then gotten itself trapped. Of course the family was anxious for me to eradicate the snake. I prepared to rip up the linoleum.
When I started moving things off of that floor, the sound moved. I looked at what I had just moved and it was the shop vac. I thought to myself that the snake had crawled up the hose and was now stuck in the vac. I took the shop vac into the front yard to free the creature. I carefully lifted the lid off the vac. I peered inside expecting a snake. At first I saw nothing. I then grabbed a flashlight and looked inside. Inside was a baby mole. It was scratching the sides of the vac with its claws, trying to get out.
I then told the family what it was and did they want to see it. They all came out and exclaimed how cute it was. One child asked if we could keep it. The response from me and my spouse was a immediate no. We set the mole free in the yard.
